ESAPA Meeting in Rochester
With PAR's support, the Empire State Alliance of Paralegal Associations ("ESAPA"), will be holding a special meeting for all NY Paralegals on the topic of Voluntary Regulation here in Rochester, NY. All paralegals (whether or not they are members of PAR or any other organizations) are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Most importantly, ESAPA needs feedback from Paralegals across the state. This meeting is an opportunity to speak up and share your thoughts about a potential voluntary regulation program in New York State. Guest speakers will be attending from Oregon and Pennsylvania to discuss the voluntary paralegal regulation programs in their states. (See “What is Voluntary Regulation?” below).
The meeting will be held at the offices of Nixon Peabody, LLP, Clinton Square, 14th Floor, and free parking will be available in the Clinton Square parking garage. A buffet lunch is included in the $15 registration fee. Please click here for more information. For more details and to register before the September 8 deadline, visit www.empirestateparalegals.org. We hope you can join us for this important cause!

What is Voluntary Regulation? Voluntary regulation is a process of credentialing paralegals who meet certain guidelines established by the overseeing organization. Such guidelines could include educational requirements; work experience; passing a proficiency examination; satisfying continuing education requirements; and adherence to a code of ethics. By identifying the regulation process as “voluntary,” paralegals could be employed in New York State without requiring an official regulatory credential. However, those paralegals choosing to apply for the credential would distinguish themselves as qualified professionals and the credential would provide a benchmark against which employers and the general public could assess that person’s qualifications.
